Solid Waste and Recycling

Schedule for Curbside garbage Collection

The Town of Magrath will collect waste weekly according to the following schedule:

  • Tuesday: All residential pickups in the area between the east side of 1st Street West (Main Street) to the most eastern Town boundary and any commercial double pickups.
  • Thursday: All residential pickups in the area between the west side of 1st Street West (Main Street to the most western Town boundary.
  • Friday: All commercial, institution and large container pickups throughout the Town of Magrath.

    Guidelines for Curbside Garbage Collection

    1. Every residency on their collection day shall ensure that there is nothing that would obstruct the pickup of the garbage cart ensuring that there is nothing located directly in front of nor found within a one-meter circumference of the refuse receptacle. (make sure lid can close)
    2. If a residency is not in adherence to Section 3 the garbage will not be picked up on that day or any other day of the week and will only be picked up on the next scheduled collection day if it is in adherence to Section 3.
    3. If a scheduled pickup as outlined in Section 5 falls upon a statutory holiday notification of the waste collection schedule shall be advertised on the Town of Magrath website.
    4. Permitted Waste:

        • Cleaning and maintenance items     
        •     Diapers, personal hygiene and home health waste
        •     Household goods
        •     Used packaging (non-recyclable)
     5.    Unpermitted Waste
       •     dangerous waste (paint, chemicals, batteries, electronics)
       •     Large appliances or furniture (must be taken to the transfer station)
       •     large or heavy Construction debris (bricks, concrete, large wood pieces)
       •     Recyclables (paper, cardboard, plastics marked as recyclable)
       •     Organic waste (while green bin pickup is ongoing)


Green Bin (Organics / Yard Waste)

For food scraps and yard waste:

  • Fruit and vegetable peelings, coffee grounds, tea bags

  • Eggshells, leftover food

  • Grass clippings, leaves, small branches, garden waste

  • Plant trimmings, flowers, and weeds

Pickup: Fridays, last week of April to the first week of November.


Blue Bin (recycling)

For all residential recyclable materials

The Town is not involved in curbside recycling collection. Circular Materials, a third-party non-profit organization, is responsible for recycling collection throughout the province. Their contractor in Magrath is Collective Waste Solutions.

Transfer Station

Hours: Wednesday and Saturday 9 am to 6 pm.
Location: 5 Ave S E, Magrath, AB T0K 1J0 | Location Pin 
*Fridges and Deep freezes require a permit to be dumped at our Transfer Station. Please come to Town Hall to purchase a permit for $30.00.
**The Transfer Station is closed on all public holidays.

Hours: Monday - Friday 7 am to 3:30 pm.
