Development Application Process and Forms

What is a development permit?

A development permit is the Town of Magrath’s approval of a proposed development under the Land Use Bylaw. Depending on the project, separate building, plumbing, gas, and electrical permits may also be required through The Inspections Group, the Town’s authorized safety codes agency. These permits help ensure construction meets applicable codes and safety requirements before the building is occupied.

♦In many cases your designer or contractor will get permits on your behalf. Remember, as the homeowner, you are ultimately responsible for obtaining the necessary permits and complying with the applicable building code and zoning requirements.♦

Why is a development permit required?

A development permit allows the Town of Magrath to review a proposed development before work begins to ensure it complies with the Town’s Land Use Bylaw. A development permit may be required for new development, changes in land use, additions, or other changes to a property.

Once a development permit has been approved, additional building, electrical, plumbing, or gas permits may be required. These permits and related inspections help ensure construction meets applicable Alberta safety codes and standards.
