Safety Code Permits Process
Planning a new build, renovation, addition, basement development, accessory structure, or change of occupancy? The Town of Magrath requires the appropriate Safety Codes permits to ensure all construction complies with provincial legislation and the codes adopted under Alberta’s Safety Codes framework.
Safety Codes permits are a legal requirement under the Safety Codes Act and associated regulations. They confirm that construction, installation, and alterations meet the technical standards set out in the Alberta Building Code, Electrical Code, Gas Code, Plumbing Code, and Fire Code, as applicable. These standards govern structural design, fire separations, exiting, ventilation, sanitation, energy efficiency, electrical systems, fuel-fired appliances, and other life-safety components of a building. These codes include:
- Building :structural design, fire separations, exiting, ventilation, and energy efficiency
- Gas: fuel-fired appliances and gas system safety
- Plumbing :sanitation, water supply, and drainage systems
- Electrical: wiring, installations, and electrical equipment safety
- Private Sewage: on-site sewage systems and waste management
In Magrath, the administration and issuance of Safety Codes permits, including plan review and inspections, has been contracted to The Inspections Group Inc.. As the Town’s accredited Safety Codes Agency, The Inspections Group is responsible for reviewing applications, issuing permits, conducting required inspections, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. Applicants will work directly with the agency for permit applications, inspection bookings, and technical code-related inquiries.
The steps to starting the a Safety Codes permit process in Magrath include:
- Visit the Resources page on the The Inspections Group website to learn about the permit application process, inspection requirements, and if a permit is required.
- Go to the Permit Applications page and download the Magrath permit application forms from fill them out.
- Once completed submit them via email to questions@inspectionsgroup.com.
- Once submitted, The Inspections Group will work with you through the remainder of the process, including scheduling inspections and providing reports.
