Magrath's Serenata Women's Choir

In 2018 two Bennett sisters, Karen Mitchell and Wanda Smith, realized a dream they had shared for decades: to start a high-end women's choir on their own terms! They auditioned interested singers and started with just six women that year. Since then Magrath's own Serenata Women's Choir has doubled in size! Every summer they hold auditions and soon will reach the desired maximum of 16 members.

Serenata sings a variety of great music: Broadway, folk , gospel, classical, sea shanties, pop hits new and old, and anything else that fires the leaders' imaginations. Karen's husband, Dr. Mark Mitchell, is both a fine accompanist and an accomplished arranger, so there is no limit to the style of music the choir can program.  A fabulous concert is performed once a year in May or June, but starting in the winter months they sing that concert repertoire in Senior Living facilities to hone the sound (and just for the fun of it!)  Karen and Wanda avoid having a musically themed program: they love variety!

Practices are Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30, from September to the end of May.  Choir members are committed for the year as each piece is voiced specifically for the current singers.  Auditions are given generally during the summer months and are booked by appointment only. New member always start with the new season in September.
