Home Occupations
The Land Use Bylaw defines a Home Occupation as: the ancillary use of a dwelling unit (and/or its accessory buildings or lands) by any trade, profession, event-based activities or craft for, or in the pursuit of, gainful employment and/or hobby involving the manufacture, processing, provision or sale of goods and/or services.
If you plan to run a business from your home in the Town of Magrath, you may need a home occupation permit. These regulations ensure that businesses operating from residential properties do not create safety hazards, traffic issues, or disturbances for neighbors. A permit allows you to operate your home-based business legally and responsibly. There are regulations surrounding Home Occupations to protect neighbors and the community. To obtain a home occupation permit, you must submit an application, receive approval, and then purchase a business license. Detailed regulations for Home Occupations can be found in the Land Use Bylaw No. 1284, Schedule 5 – Development Standards, Section 18.
