Council Committee
What Is a Council Committee or Committee of the Whole?
A Council Committee or Committee of the Whole is a forum where all members of Council meet to review, discuss, and receive information on specific topics in a less formal setting than a regular Council meeting. These meetings are used to explore issues in greater detail, provide direction to Administration, and consider options before matters are brought forward for formal decision at a regular or special Council meeting. Council Committees meetings support informed decision-making by allowing focused discussion and collaboration on strategic, operational, or policy-related matters.
Who Are Members of the Committee?
A Council Committee or Committee of the Whole is made up of all members of Council.
Where and When Does the Committee Meet?
Council Committee meetings are typically held in the Town Hall council chamber at 6:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, in accordance with Council’s approved meeting schedule. Exceptions are made in the months of July, August, and December, during which no Council Committee meetings are held.
