Pilot Project to Reduce Community Fire Risks

Goats to graze difficult to maintain areas

The Town of Magrath is conducting a pilot project to lower the grass fire risks to the community. Working within town properties and in cooperation with other landowners the Town has contracted a local rancher to use goats to graze areas that are difficult to maintain along the Pothole Creek including along the trail. The hoped outcome is to reduce the dead grass fuel load that would be available for an event in the dry months of the year and have it able to grow back as spring arrives. We ask that you please ensure all dogs are kept on leashes when walking along the trail and in other areas where signs indicate the goats are in the area.
