EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The Town of Magrath is seeking applications to fill a permanent full-time Parks & Recreation Operator position. The successful candidate will work in a team environment and will be responsible for duties as directed by the Operations Manager and Parks & Recreation Foreman.

Duties include the operation and maintenance of Town parks, green spaces, recreation facilities, sports fields and cemetery. The position includes arena and swimming pool maintenance, irrigation and landscaping, snow removal, equipment operation and maintenance, minor repairs, and supervision of seasonal staff as required. There may also be crossover work with other Town Operations departments as needed.

Compensation

Starting Wage: $21.50/hour

Full-time – 40 hours per week. Schedule to be determined.

Full-time employees are enrolled in a comprehensive benefits plan after three months of employment. After one year of employment, a full-time employee will also be enrolled in the Local Authorities Pension Plan.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Operator’s Licence;
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain equipment and small tools;
  • Willingness to work various shifts throughout the arena season;
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions;
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors and the public;
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations, including evenings and weekends;

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to five years of experience in a municipal, parks and recreation, or related environment;
  • Experience operating equipment such as mowers, tractors, skid steers, snow removal equipment and single-axle trucks;
  • Experience with arena, swimming pool, irrigation, landscaping or facility maintenance;
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience performing minor equipment repairs and routine maintenance;
  • Experience supervising or directing seasonal or operational staff.
  • Basic First Aid/CPR, WHMIS and TDG certification, or willingness to obtain.

Working Conditions

Primarily an outdoor and facility-based work environment with exposure to varying weather conditions, dirt, dust, noise and vibration. The position requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, crouching, lifting and working on uneven ground. Evening and weekend work may be required as part of the on-call rotation and recreation facility operations.
