It’s coming along.  

Our north entrance pond is looking great!  We would like to ask the public to stay off the sprayed areas.  Our contractors have currently sprayed a grass and soil stabilization mix along the trail and around the pond.  Thank you for your cooperation.

PUBLIC WORKS - EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The Town of Magrath is seeking applications for one full time labourer position to work in a team environment and will be responsible for duties as directed by the Operations Manager.  Duties would include assisting with maintenance and operation of all Town-owned facilities, including waste transfer station, water and sewer lines, roads and parks.  There is some crossover work with the associated Parks and Recreation Department as needed.

Preferred Qualifications include:

1. An understanding of the mechanical function of machinery and equipment associated with municipal operations;

2. Construction and maintenance knowledge of roads, sidewalks and other related municipal infrastructure;

3. Class 3 driver’s license;

4. Willingness to work in a team environment and perform other duties as required;

5. The applicant must be willing to participate in on-call rotations as required.

HIGHWAY 62 TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE

As part of the flood mitigation and drainage project that is currently underway on our community’s northern boundary, our north entrance on Highway 62 will be temporarily closed for several days for related construction purposes. This major road will be closed on Wednesday, October 18th and is currently expected to reopen the morning of Tuesday, October 24th. We apologize for any inconvenience caused, and will keep you posted on any changes to this schedule. Please use alternative entrances/exits.

We would like to thank all candidates for running! Also thank you to the 917 voters that came out to vote!  Which was a great turn out at 56% of eligible voters which is slightly up from 2013 which had 54%.

MAGRATH DAYS’ MAJOR AWARD WINNER

The Town of Magrath and its “Magrath Days” celebration were recently honoured as “Event of the Year” by Chinook Country Tourism. The award was received on behalf of the Town by Councillor Gerry Baril at Chinook Country’s Southwest Service and Tourism Awards event on October 4th. We would like to thank all of the volunteers, sponsors, Town Staff & Crew and Magrath and area community members that helped make this Canada 150 celebration and annual event such a success. Tourism is playing an increasing role in our community and wider region as we work to diversify our local economy. Thanks again to everyone that was involved.

In addition, a special thank you to the Town Celebration Committee.

Notice of Election, Advance Vote and Institutional Vote

Voting will take place on the 16th day of October 2017, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.  The voting station will be located at:

Garden City Seniors Centre - 32 North 1 Street West, Magrath, Alberta

For those unable to vote on Election Day, an Advance Vote will be held on the 11th day of October 2017, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.   This will take place at:

For the Residents only of the Diamond Willow Lodge and the Good Samaritans Lodge an Institutional Vote will be conducted on 16th day of October as follows:

October Library News

The library will be closed on Saturday, October 7th and Monday, October 9th for Thanksgiving.  Magrath Library will reopen Tuesday October 10th at 1:30 pm.  On Wednesday, October 4th story time starts up again from 10 to 11 AM every Wednesday.  Kids five and under are welcome to join us for lots of stories, crafts, singing and fun activities.  Children must have a parent or a guardian with them. You do not need a membership to attend but if you want to take out library materials you will need one.   We would like to thank all the volunteers that came forward to do Story hour, without your help it would not be possible.
